On Friday, March 3, 2023, BDK, Inc. (BDK) attended The Maryland Capital Enterprises’ (MCE) Women’s Business Center’s (WBC) 8th Annual Conference. Held at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury, MD, the conference is for businesswomen, aspiring women entrepreneurs, or current women business owners looking to expand their knowledge in various areas of the business world.
BDK was represented by Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Edwina Kimball. There, she attended sessions, met with women leaders from other local business, and brought back key sales, marketing, and general business insights to share with the team that align with this year’s conference theme: Aspire to Lead and Succeed.
“As an Eastern Shore native and woman business owner, I appreciate the steps MCE is taking to ensure women in the area are provided professional development and networking opportunities at a local level,” said Mrs. Kimball. “Studies have shown the measurable contributions women provide to businesses in all industries, and yet, women tend to be underrepresented in a lot of fields, especially the technology industry. Having and attending events like the WBC helps ensure today’s and tomorrow’s women’s labor force has the resources needed to thrive in business.”
According to the event page, the MCE WBC is “designed to empower women-owned businesses to grow, create jobs, and generate wealth on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and across the state by nurturing and encouraging entrepreneurship.” As a Small Business Administration (SBA) resource partner, the MCE WBC is meant for anyone looking for inspiration and assistance to start or grow their small business. According to the SBA, women-owned businesses now make up to 42 percent of all businesses in the United States.
BDK looks forward to attending next year’s conference and plans to ensure additional women from around the organization can attend. Check out a few pictures from this year’s conference below.
