At BDK, Inc., one of our biggest assets is our people. Our teams are comprised of innovators, problem solvers, trailblazers, and leaders with more than a century of combined experience in the IT field. Our motto, “IT Made Simple” directly correlates to our down-to-earth and service-oriented employees who make IT approachable for our customers.
Our “Day in the Life” blog series highlights some of our organization’s integral contributors, while offering insight into the day-to-day work life and culture at BDK. This week, Tiffany McCabe, BDK’s Marketing Manager, provides a glimpse into her marketing and communications background, what her typical day looks like, and what makes BDK, Inc. a great place to work and grow.
- What is your role at BDK (including high-level functions)?
As the Marketing Manager for BDK, Inc., I am responsible for leading the company's marketing and communications strategy and efforts. Externally, I work to promote BDK's brand and highlight our services and team via social media, blogs (thought leadership and team/employee spotlights), news stories, email marketing and customer communications, job fairs, sponsorships, etc. Internally, I manage supporting employee engagement via monthly town halls and our "company kudos" program, as well as any other ad hoc communications that need to go out to the broader team.
- How did you end up in the IT field, and ultimately, working at BDK?
As the daughter of its founders, BDK has been an integral part of my life since its inception. When I was ten, BDK operated out of our living room; growing up, BDK employees would work out of our home office. The company continued to grow and moved to Easton, and I even worked here for a summer after college before finding my first "big girl" job.
Despite having grown up surrounded by the IT world, I like to joke that I'm not very technically proficient. For the last nine years, I've held marketing and communications roles in a variety of industries, including staffing and recruiting, testing and assessments, and special education. Prior to joining BDK, my current company was experiencing a lot of turnover and leadership changes—forcing me to re-evaluate my place there. As such, I called my parents and proposed that I come do marketing for BDK (an idea that's been floated around for years), and they agreed it would be a good time to ramp up their efforts and bring me on board.
- Describe your typical day as a Marketing Manager.
My typical day at BDK varies based on the week's priorities. Tasks that are consistent week to week though include researching, interviewing staff, and writing our blogs and social media post against our set calendar; meetings with the marketing team and account management team to discuss what's in the pipeline, any special projects we're working on, and any support we might need; and working toward other marketing or internal deliverables, including monthly e-blasts, events, slide decks, etc. While my current marketing efforts are mostly dedicated to BDK, in the near future, I will be looking help expand our services portfolio options to support our customer's marketing and design needs.
- What do you enjoy most about working for BDK?
While BDK is a company and brand I've known most of my life, I am really enjoying the opportunity to further BDK's reach through marketing to current and future customers, as well as the community. Aside from being one of the leading IT service providers on the Shore, BDK excels at being an employer and by giving back. I'm provided with a lot of autonomy to take my ideas and run with them; I get to be a part of a work culture that fosters its employees and values them as people; and I am able to help BDK support our local communities through fundraisers and events that speak directly to our ideals (supporting families and children in need, promoting women in technology, etc.). I am proud of the organization my family has worked to build over the last two decades, and I feel fortunate that I get to play a small role in its continued success.
