Meet the second generation of the BDK family! Brian Kimball is building on the family legacy in his role as Senior Systems Engineer. Brian is the oldest son of BDK founders Bruce and Edwina Kimball. Brian acclimated to technology at a young age because his family has always been tech-oriented. He remembers a server always being in the house. As Brian grew older, his path to the IT field took a creative turn. He majored in Art at the University of Maryland, and his first love was digital & graphic design.
This is creative foundation has served Brian well as a developer and systems engineer. It gives him an advantage when considering the user interface and design of applications. His creativity also makes him a more effective problem solver, giving him a unique perspective when approaching networking and systems challenges.
Brian travels throughout the country installing servers for BDK’s largest clients. These servers are typically a component of a high availability, or other complex solutions. Brian also sets up operating systems (IBM i, Linux, Windows) and networking and email systems. He’s also the one clients turn to for help whenever their systems are down or there’s a particularly challenging IT problem. Brian’s favorite projects to work on are website development and software development for web apps.
Brian also plays a key role in the company’s management and day-to-day operations. One of things he likes best about working in the family business is that he gets to spend lots of time with his dad. He truly appreciates what a unique opportunity that is.
When Brian isn’t working, he enjoys exercise, woodworking, and spending time with his wife Jamie, daughter Lake and their pets (a pit bull/border collie mix, a pug/chihuahua mix, and a Manx cat). He also loves to travel to any beach destination, especially the Bahamas and the Outer Banks.
